Pentax has announced the new Pentax *ist DL, continuing the heritage of the dumbest-named family of cameras of all time. This new body is essentially a cut-down budget version of the *ist DS. It should prove to be a very affordable and lightweight ‘first DSLR’ upgrade for owners of Pentax film cameras who have been considering the switch to digital.

Sigma has just announced a new 180mm f/3.5 telephoto macro lens designed specifically for use with digital cameras. It is compatible with Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Konica Minolta DSLRs.

Features include:

  • New multi-layer coating for minimising flare and ghost.
  • HSM models ensure fast and silent autofocusing with full- time manual focus override.
  • Accepts both 1.4X and 2X APO EX Tele-Converters.

New Pentax *istDS Firmware

Pentax has released firmware version 1.02 for the Pentax *istDS digital camera. This software provides support for SD cards larger than 1GB.
