All About The Eyes
In portrait photography, it’s All About The Eyes.
Kevin Mills has written another great article, this time about post-processing portrait photographs. He shows some good Photoshop techniques for cleaning up portraits, with particular emphasis on getting the eyes looking right (removing stray hairs, removing secondary catchlights, cleaning up the primary catchlights, cleaning up bags or darkness under the eyes, making the whites white, lightening the iris slightly to separate it from the pupil, adding iris moons, and enhancing eyelashes and eyebrows).
Again, the use of rollovers to show before and after images is a very effective teaching technique.
It sounds like a lot of work, but attention to these details will really make a difference in a portrait shot.
