Warning About Liquid Sensor Cleaners

One of the products often recommended by photography web sites for cleaning your digital SLR’s sensor is Sensor Clean from Visible Dust.

Before using this system, have a read of Darryl Luscombe’s experience with Sensor Clean. Basically, he cleaned his 300D’s sensor with Sensor Clean as per the instructions, and some of the cleaning fluid seems to have wicked in between the sensor and the infrared filter, leaving a now-permanent mark at the edge of the frame. Visible Dust claims that this is the result of a manufacturing defect in the sensor.

Whatever the cause, the terse and broken response from Dr. Degan of Visible Dust doesn’t inspire any confidence in the company or its products. Companies need to be more supportive of their customers, and their communication needs to be clear and well-written if they want to win over loyal customers. It’s just too easy nowadays for poor support experiences to be shared with thousands of others, turning away potential new customers.

I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to whether to use the Visible Dust products, or to instead look at other products on our digital sensor cleaning page.
